Dora’s Cafe

The Beginning

1989

Dora Juarez was a mother to five, a grandmother to 13, a wife to one, and a friend to everyone. In 1989, she opened the best Mexican restaurants on the planet in Brownsville, Texas. She was the cook, the hostess, the server…and the entertainer. After the entire restaurant was sat and had food on their tables, she would play old hymns on an organ at the entrance of the restaurant. From the made-from-scratch tortillas to the warm greetings, Dora created a special space, unlike anything that has ever or will ever be seen again.

As one of her grandsons, I hope to take the spirit of hospitality from Dora’s Cafe and marry it with everything the world loves about Latin food.
